Striking a Balance Between Positivity and Realism: Navigating the Road to Success

While reading the book “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind” by Joseph Murphy and discussing the nuances with a friend, I stumbled on the realisation that in the journey towards achieving our goals and dreams, two seemingly contrasting philosophies stand at odds with each other: positivity and realism and the more I thought about this, the more I realised that finding the right balance is perhaps the key. I understand that positivity fuels our determination and optimism, influencing our subconscious minds to reach for our goals – however lofty – and also feel that realism could act as our compass, guiding us through a tumultuous terrain where we occasionally may feel the need to pivot from our intended course in order to reach the goals. The road then is not quite straight. I explore here the power of positivity and its influence on the subconscious Mind, talk about a reality check and the fact that we must listen to the guidance from the universe and then finally strike that balance – I end this post with an interesting example to illustrate this point, from the recent past, with a story about Space X and Elon Musk.

The Power of Positivity

Positivity is a force that emanates from the very core of our desires. It’s a mindset that keeps us motivated, even in the face of adversity. Positivity feeds our ambitions and fuels our subconscious minds with the belief that we can achieve anything we set out to do. It fosters resilience and encourages us to persist through challenges. When harnessed correctly, positivity can be an invaluable tool on our path to success.

The Need to Influence Your Subconscious Mind

The subconscious mind is a powerful ally on our quest to achieve our goals. It’s where our beliefs, desires, and motivations reside. By embracing positivity, we essentially reprogram our subconscious minds to believe in the feasibility of our objectives. When our subconscious is aligned with our conscious intentions, it becomes a driving force, helping us achieve our goals

The Reality Check

Yet, while positivity is a potent ally, there comes a time when we must temper our optimism with a dose of reality. It’s vital to recognise when the direction we’re headed in could be a bit off course. Being realistic means confronting this and making necessary adjustments. Sometimes, the universe throws roadblocks in our path, and the road we thought was straightforward turns out to be a detour. Realism acts as a lighthouse, guiding us away from danger and back onto the right path.

The Universe’s Guidance

Life is replete with unpredictability. The road to what we desire isn’t always a straight line. Sometimes, the universe has plans of its own, leading us in a different direction for reasons we may not yet comprehend. In such moments, a reality check is invaluable. It helps us differentiate between unwavering determination and blind stubbornness. It reminds us that the path to our dreams is not always the one we initially envisioned, but it might be the one we truly need. This need not interfere with the Goal we have in mind.

Striking a Balance

In essence, striking a balance between positivity and realism is the key to achieving lasting success. Positivity empowers us to start the journey and fuels us with determination, while realism guides us when it’s time to change course. These two forces, seemingly contradictory, can be complementary, creating a dynamic and adaptable approach to reaching our aspirations.

The pursuit of our dreams is a delicate dance between positivity and realism. Positivity provides the initial spark of motivation, influencing our subconscious minds to drive us forward. Realism, on the other hand, ensures we stay on a feasible and rewarding path, allowing us to recognize when a change of direction is necessary. Ultimately, it is this balance that enables us to overcome obstacles, adapt to the universe’s guidance, and achieve what we truly want in life.

An excellent recent example that embodies the delicate balance between positivity and realism is the story of SpaceX and its founder, Elon Musk.

Positivity and Subconscious Influence:
Elon Musk’s journey to revolutionise space exploration and make humanity multi-planetary through SpaceX is an inspiring testament to the power of positivity. Musk’s unwavering optimism and belief that humans could colonise Mars influenced not only his conscious goals but also his subconscious mind. He dreamed big and visualised a future where space travel was not limited to astronauts but accessible to ordinary people.

Musk’s relentless positivity played a crucial role in influencing not only his own mind but also the minds of his team and investors. It inspired them to push the boundaries of what was thought possible in the aerospace industry. This positivity became the driving force behind SpaceX’s monumental achievements, from the successful launch and recovery of reusable rockets to the development of the Starship, a spacecraft with the potential to make interplanetary travel a reality.

Realism and Course Correction:
However, Musk’s journey was not without its share of setbacks and challenges. There were times when SpaceX faced near-fatal failures, financial crises, and technical obstacles that seemed insurmountable. In these moments, the need for realism became evident. Musk and his team had to face the hard truth that their initial course wasn’t always the right one.

For instance, SpaceX’s early rocket launch attempts were met with failures, but instead of blindly persisting, Musk and his team took a realistic approach. They assessed the problems, learned from their mistakes, and made necessary adjustments. Their realism allowed them to iterate and improve their rockets, ultimately leading to the successful Falcon 1 launch and later the Falcon 9, which has become a workhorse in the space industry.

Universe’s Guidance and Reality Check:
Moreover, Musk’s journey with SpaceX has also demonstrated the concept of the universe guiding us in unexpected directions. Musk’s original vision of a Mars colony faced challenges, and the universe seemed to be pointing him toward another path. He realized that making Mars habitable might be a much more complex and time-consuming endeavour than he initially thought.

As a result, Musk pivoted towards making humanity a multi-planetary species in a more practical and realistic way. He focused on the development of the Starship, which has a broader range of applications, including lunar missions and point-to-point Earth travel. In this instance, a reality check and a willingness to adapt to the universe’s guidance led to a more achievable and versatile approach.

The journey of SpaceX under Elon Musk’s leadership is a great example of how the balance between positivity, realism, and the ability to recognise when the universe is guiding you in a different direction can lead to remarkable achievements. Musk’s unwavering positivity inspired groundbreaking innovations, while his realism and adaptability allowed SpaceX to overcome challenges and find a more practical path to its audacious goals.
